The Art for All initiate is part of the Sheikha Salama Foundation’s mission to evoke the art senses of the general public and to widen appreciation of and accessibility to the arts and emphasises one of the four pillars of the Foundation to support efforts that inspire people to become involved in the arts, culture and heritage.
In 2012 “ART FOR ALL” served as a platform to communicate with the public to form greater appreciation for the arts and encourage local talent to enhance their skills and competencies. To that end, the Foundation organised this series of art programmes throughout October as a preamble to the Abu Dhabi Art Fair held in November.
Our role in this endeavour was to design two elements of this art programme in which the Sheikha Salama Foundation aims to enhance the public encounter with the arts at all levels. The first was a series of individual artist galleries arranged as an ensemble to present the work of five developing artists in the malls of the UAE, thereby proving access to a broad range of visitors. The second was a new approach to the photographic booth which is commonly seen in our everyday existence and in various locations, yet whilst retaining its functionality and purpose it would also become an artistic interpretation and contribution to the surrounding environment.
In reference to the foundations general mission Her Highness Sheikha Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan says “We have an opportunity to lay the groundwork and transform the UAE and its people into a community that has a passion and drive to maintain its culture through the arts for generations to come. Art is a unifying experience and one of the strongest tools we have to express ourselves without needing words.”
